| Peggy grew up in Independence, MO and that is
where her family still resides. Her only pet growing up was a cat named
Bosco. Even though that was the only the pet in her house, that
didn't keep her from seeking out other animals in her
neighborhood. She lived in a rural location so the family across
the street had a farm. She would go over there to play with the
farm dogs and she even rode the sheep. Nothing ever kept Peggy
away from animals!
When she was 11 or 12 as she recalls, she saw sausage being made at the local grocery. She asked her Dad what it was and keeping with his policy of being honest with his kids, explained exactly what it was. She felt a little disturbed, and began to think about how people treat animals, household pets or farm animals, she made no differentiation. That memory that is still so vivid in her mind eventually led her to changing her eating habits and becoming a vegetarian. She entered UMKC in 2002 as a photography major and then realized while she enjoyed photography, she didn't want to make the investment that it required. Her shots had always been "staged", with her deciding what her model would wear, and exactly how the shot should look. She never took candid shots. From this, she thought she would enjoy learning more about fashion design and she entered the areas only fashion design program at Penn Valley Community College. She will graduate from that program in the spring of 2005 and she has decided to continue her education in another area of strong personal interest, Theology at Rockhurst. It's quite a leap from fashion design but Peggy is a multi-faceted girl! In 2003, Peggy began missing having pets in her life so she started telling friends and family that she would take care of their pets while they were at work or on vacation. She has always sought out the companionship of animals, and knew that working at citydog would be perfect for her. Now she gets paid for what she sometimes did for free! She also belongs to the Kansas City Roller Warriors league and is on the Dogfightin' Dames team. You can visit their website at www.kcrollerwarriors.com. It's quite a show and Peggy, ummm, Estee Slaughter can skate like nobody's business! |
